Catholic Ceremonies

In the UK it is possible to plan either a Catholic wedding or a Catholic blessing. For the marriage to be legally recognised, all civil requirements need to be met before the ceremony.

Catholic ceremonies usually take place in a church, however in Scotland and Northern Ireland religious ceremonies are not limited to a church, but can take place at a number of alternative venues as longs as they have been agreed suitable by the priest.

In order for a Catholic marriage to take place, one of the couples must be Catholic and have a certificate of baptism. If both couples are Catholic, the ceremony usually forms part of a full Nuptial Mass and Communion.

Catholic weddings require specific religious paperwork to be completed and the couple needs to give several months notice to the priest.

If you have previously been married in a Catholic church and have not yet received a formal annulment, only a civil ceremony will be possible.
