Religious Ceremonies
The same regulations as for a civil ceremony apply to a religious ceremony and notification must be given to the civil authorities. The appropriate religious celebrant must also be contacted and the religious regulations followed in accordance to the specific denomination or religion.
Where you can marry
Religious ceremonies in the Republic of Ireland can only take place in religious buildings such as churches, synagogues and temples.
Who can solemnise the ceremony
The ceremony will be solemnised by an authorised religious celebrant representing the specific denomination. If the religious celebrant is not licensed to register, the marriage a registrar must attend the ceremony to supervise the signing of the register in order to comply with civil law.
