The serene gardens include a little Italian Garden with a remarkable rockery which is where the first garden gnome introduced into England was placed. There is also a rose garden and a lily pond with several sycamores and cedar trees planted back in the 1820’s. You can admire a large wrought iron gate, still standing from when the gardens where first laid out in 1655.The grounds are ideal for extensive strolls and memorable wedding photographs!
There are many fine rooms in the house. One of them has an elaborate chimneypiece and the ceiling dates back from 1740, while another contains rare Venetian cabinets featuring mythological paintings on the glass. The library is notable for its ancient 16th century tomes, a Bible belonging once to Charles I and that very old gnome – the one and only remaining original!
