When it comes to weddings, location is everything and you will find that the South East region of England really does have everything making it a well-loved region visited by all.
Royal County Berkshire, as it is often referred to, is known for its royal connections. Windsor Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world with various parts open to the public giving you the opportunity to admire the incredible collection of furniture, porcelain, coats of armour as well as Queen Mary’s Dolls House with its electric lights and running water. The famous Royal Ascot racecourse attracts crowds every June and makes for a great day out at the races!
Escape into the countryside and enjoy the outdoors in Buckinghamshire. This lovely county has been inspiring authors such as Dahl over the years and will capture your imagination from the moment you arrive. Walks along the gentle sloping Chiltern Hills is a favourite pastime or make the most of a relaxing boat ride taking in the views of scenic villages alongside the River Thames.
Sussex has so much to offer from coast to countryside you will be totally amazed. The views of the seven sister chalk cliffs are spectacular from Beachy Head, you may recognise this beautiful setting from the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Come and see what all the fuss is about at one of England’s most popular attraction, Brighton Pier attracting over 3½ million visitors annually. Bognor Regis is best known for the international Birdman Rally, a very entertaining event where competitors hurl themselves off the pier in an attempt to make the longest flight.
No visit to Hampshire would be complete without experiencing the timeless beauty of the New Forest and its tranquil villages where ponies wander freely. The blend of dense woodland, heaths, streams and estuaries make it a peaceful place for picnics under large shady oaks, you may even spot a few roaming deer! Two of England’s most famous ports are situated here, Southampton and Portsmouth, each with a rich maritime history and ideal locations to board a ferry across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
The Isle of Wight is a popular holiday destination attracting visitors time and time again. The island plays host to an array of festivals and events including, the legendary annual regatta ‘Skandia Crows Week’, the Isle of Wight Music Festival and the White Air Extreme Sports Festival along with many carnivals to add to the excitement. Visit England’s most famous natural landmark, the White Cliffs of Dover where you will come across breathtaking coastal walks together with cross channel views of France on the horizon. Canterbury is yet another of Kent’s crowd-pullers with its magnificent cathedral and ruins of St Augustine’s abbey. Not only does this county have the loveliest castle in the world, Leeds Castle, but Scotney Castle too, often called the most romantic garden in the country which is sure to impress!
A huge attraction in Oxfordshire is the capital itself. Oxford has been romantically named the city of ‘Dreaming Spires’ bustling with urban delights. A visit to Blenheim Place, the birthplace of Winston Churchill as well as Banbury and Sulgrave Manor, home of George Washington’s family are both highly advised.
Surrey, despite having London on its doorstep, has several quiet oases worth exploring. One oasis being the Kew Gardens with acres of beautiful gardens ranging from Japanese landscapes to woodland walks and Victorian greenhouses with a variety of exotic plants. Take a magical journey through royal history at Hampton Court Palace with its significant collection of art and loose yourself in the well known hedge maze.
