Weddings in Padstow
This bustling fishing harbour is one of Cornwall’s little treasures.
Set on a hillside with spectacular views of the Camel Estuary and beyond, its position makes Padstow a lovely location for a wedding celebration. The locals are welcoming with open arms, the natural beauty of the town is breathtaking and there is plenty to explore…what more could you ask for?
If staring into the harbour scene, simply watching the world go by, or lazing on a sandy beach is not the perfect way for you to spend a day, then you will be pleased to know Padstow has something for everyone. Hire a small boat for the afternoon and go fishing or take a pleasure cruise and marvel at the beautiful cliffs and coves otherwise hidden from the shore, only accessible via the sea. Interesting walks include the Camel Trail and the Saints Way, the latter being one of the oldest in Cornwall, originating from the Bronze Age, where you can trace the footprints of those first travelers starting at St. Petroc’s church.
Follow the steep, crooked lanes winding their way down to the port and you will discover many pastel-washed medieval buildings which, to some, is an attraction in itself. If you can lure yourself away from the water’s edge, the museum is well worth a visit. Here you can learn a little about the town’s history and heritage from primitive Beaker folk, Romans, Celtic Saints to Vikings.
A visit to Padstow would not be complete without sampling a fish dish from the famous seafood restaurant run by Rick Stein. Pub meals and real ale are easy to come by and for those of you with a sweet tooth, it will be difficult to walk past the sweet shops selling home made fudge without setting foot inside!
On May Day every year the streets are filled with colour and plenty of music as the Padstonians gather together for the Hobby Horse dance festival. This tradition dates back centuries and starts at midnight, continuing on until the following midnight. If your visit to Padstow coincides with the celebrations, you are in for a hilarious time!
Padstow’s idyllic atmosphere makes it perfect for a wedding or a romantic break or two!
