Weddings in the Peak District

There are a few locations in the UK that can compare with the Peak District and many people travel from all over the world to make the most of the stunning scenery that awaits them. This is a fantastic place for a luxurious break to be joined in matrimony!

The Peak District's appeal lies largely in its diverse landscapes making it a paradise for walkers, nature lovers and extreme enthusiasts too! In the North you will find rocky crags and panoramic, sweeping moorland, while the South is mainly steep gorges and gentle green valleys filled with a variety of wild flowers and trees. An ideal setting for caving, paragliding, rock climbing, hiking or simply quiet strolls, painting, bird watching or grasping the opportunity to take some excellent photographs!

For water lovers the Peak District is home to the most beautiful river – Dovedale, surrounded by what is left of ancient coral reefs and the remarkable mountain plateau of Kinder Scout where you will come across Kinder Downfall, the highest waterfall in the Peaks with fantastic views. Other waterfalls worth seeing are the Three Shire Heads and the man-made falls of Derwent Dam. Come and find peace and tranquillity alongside the sparking rivers and pure-water springs crossing the Peak District with the many lakes providing ideal conditions for water sports such as sailing and canoeing.

Sitting comfortably in the beautiful Peak District landscape are friendly towns and unique villages with stone cottages and cobbled streets. The spa town of Buxton is a popular holiday resort, most famous for its spring water and is definitely worth a visit. Equally delightful are Ashbourne, Bakewell and Matlock. Their bustling centres have an enticing choice of restaurants, retail stores as well as craft fairs and farmers markets where you can witness unique craftsmanship and sample the local produce such Bakewell Pudding and Hartington Cheese.

The ancient culture of well-dressing still continues throughout the Peak District. During the spring and summer months ceremonies are held and the wells are decorated with an assortment of flowers, berries and leaves – a tradition dating back from pagan times to give thanks for the purity of the waters! They Royal Shrovetide Footbath is yet another local custom not to miss along with the many other festivals which take place annually.

Take a tour of the towns to discover the tales behind their historic buildings and unique castles. The Magnificent Chatsworth House is one of the counties greatest treasures houses along with the mansions at Haddon and Hardwick, set in vast estates.
