Weddings in Wales

Croeso i Gymru - Welcome to Wales! This is a country which will inspire charm and welcome you with open arms! Wales lies on the western side of Great Britain, bordering England, and although it is only a small country you will be pleasantly surprised at just how much it has to offer!

The breathtaking scenery of Wales adds a touch of romance to the place making it perfect for exchanging your vows. Each part of Wales has its own special features, from mountains and lakes filled with folklore, enchanting waterfalls and dense forests to peaceful seashores with clear blue waters and uninhabited islands home to a variety of wildlife. There are endless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors with activities to suit all. Gallop down the sandy beaches, snorkel in remote caves, go fishing, watch a Welsh sunset or go bottlenose dolphin spotting. For those seeking a bit of adventure there is always rock climbing, kayaking, windsurfing, paragliding, coasteering and cliff jumping along with many many more exhilarating things to do.

Wales not only has some of the most beautiful vistas you will ever experience, but there is also an abundance of historical places to explore and a rich cultural heritage to discover, after all Wales is time and again called “Land of Castles” with over 400 medieval fortresses! This is a land full of myths and legends, many of which will leave you spellbound! The Welsh tend to be great story tellers and you are sure to hear the tales of dragons, knights, wizards, kings and princesses wherever your journey here takes you. With such magic and enchantment in the air, it is no surprise where the Welsh author Roald Dahl got his wild imagination from.

If you are really feeling romantically inclined, why not give your sweetheart a Welsh love spoon? This ancient custom dates as far back as the 17th century, where young men would carve ornate spoons out of a piece of wood and then give them as a token of their love and to show their affection and intentions. Today these love spoons make wonderful wedding gifts and souvenirs of your time spent in Wales.

As you make your way through the picturesque little villages, you are more than likely to hear the locals chatting away in their mother tongue Welsh – one of Europe’s oldest living languages! Don’t miss out on the Welsh festivals of literature, music and performance, in particular the National Eisteddfod of Wales which is entirely in Welsh. Wales has been thriving with talent, from familiar bands such as the Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics, Lostprophets and Super Furry Animals to artists including Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Bonnie Tyler and Charlotte Church along with actors including Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins, Michael Sheen and Catherine Zeta-Jones, all born right here in Wales!

A visit to Wales’s capital Cardiff should be on everyone’s itinerary along with Swansea, Wales’s “City by the Sea”! These two cosmopolitan cities are buzzing with excitement and a wide range of events and attractions await you. There are museums, galleries, theatres, bars and pubs not to forget the many fine restaurants. You will never be short of places to eat in Wales. If you are after some truly traditional Welsh cuisine, try Laverbread (made from seaweed), Bara Brith (a kind of fruit bread) or even Welsh Rarebit, which is cheese on toast with a slight twist of beer, butter and some mustard! But if that has not tempted your taste buds, you will still come across food from around the world.

Come and see that this charming and delightful country certainly has everything you could want to make your wedding day that extra bit special!
